How to build hip strength for crawling and walking

There’s lots of little mini milestones and links in the chain that build to big skills like crawling and walking. Hip strength is a general ‘link’ that might refer to a few different things like:

  • pushing up from the floor into standing (bottom muscles)
  • holding our pelvis steady to shift weight for taking steps (side hip muscles) in crawling and walking
  • balancing on knees, keeping knees under hips and not falling out of kneeling (inside and outside hip muscles)
  • moving up and down from kneeling high to low (bottom muscles)

And more!

Check out this video to get an understanding of how to use a kneeling position to play in a way that builds on these ideas
