I absolutely love layered play for bubs at ANY stage of development when they are frustrated to help them figure out and explore how their body moves, progressing their development and reducing frustrations.
What is layered play?
It is where you use a layer to support bub.
Steps, couch cushions, cardboard boxes even you!
Bub not enjoying tummy time? Add your shin, your thigh, a pregnancy wedge, a folded towel, a pillow… anything that supports their chest and allows them to use their arms freely
Bub a happy sitter?
Or finding hands and knees difficult?
Or that swimming reflex being a real frustrating pain point?
Add a couch cushion – that way you are:
- bringing the ground UP and so moving from sitting to tummy isn’t so scary.
- or you are supporting their chest so they can bring their knees under which reduces the landau (swimming) reflex)
You can use all sorts of layers; see some pics below
